RF Team Leader Role – Telecommunications Company in Cambridge
Working with a business we have scaled for more than 5 years now, we're excited to help them find someone to manage their RF Electronics Development Team while contributing to projects as an RF Design Engineer. Very much a hands on team lead role with regular experience of designing RF electronics products, leading teams, mentoring, solving problems, and interfacing with senior management.

Sounds ominous! What are the responsibilites exactly?
- Leading a team of RF design engineers, with duties such as:
- Resource allocation based on priorities
- Technical guidance within the RF field
- Mentoring junior team members
- Performance and development reviews
- Process reinforcement and standard setting
- Technical design and specification of RF circuitry for radio communication products:
- Subsystem design and implementation
- Integration with Baseband, Audio, and MMI subsystems
- Component specification and sourcing
- Creation of design and test documentation
- Schematic creation and PCB layout supervision
- Requirements analysis and issue resolution
- Support for type approval and customer inquiries
- Reporting to senior stakeholders
You'll work with a diverse customer base across industries, supporting critical communication needs/clients and other industries. Typical activities will include:
- Project reviews to set priorities and address challenges
- Design reviews for RF system compliance and performance
- Collaboration with various technical teams
- Mentoring junior staff on technical issues
- Project management, including timeline updates, resource management, and milestone tracking
- Occasional travel is required; a valid driver’s license is needed, with travel expenses covered.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field
- Significant RF design and development experience, ideally within telecommunications
- In-depth knowledge of RF systems, design, simulation, and testing
- Proven leadership and mentoring experience
- Strong project management skills and ability to deliver on time and within budget
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Proficiency in RF design tools and software
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively
- Experience with professional mobile radio (PMR) systems
- Knowledge of telecommunications regulatory standards and compliance
- Familiarity with advanced RF technologies (e.g., beamforming, MIMO)
