Jack Jillings

​Jack started his SoCode journey in November 2022.

"I'm a Senior Recruitment Consultant at SoCode, specialising in Cyber Security. I head up the division, helping companies find top talent in this in-demand field. i joined the SoCode team in November 2022, and have built a strong network of cybersecurity professionals, from AppSec, DevSecOps, Embedded Security and many more.

I head up the Cyber Security division, I love working this market because of the ever-changing landscape, with every innovation comes new threats and so working alongside the people who must understand and tackle these problems is really engaging for me personally. With the rise of AI becoming more and more relevant in today’s landscape, everyone in security needs to understand the risks that it offers, as well as the advantage it’s utilisation brings from an operational standpoint, this for me is so interesting (and maybe slightly scary!). Secondly, I like being a voice in security when I work with hiring managers, there are so many qualifications/certifications/frameworks in security, often great candidates are missed by not ticking unnecessary parts of job descriptions and so I believe that a good consultant highlights the right people for a role, and not just the CV’s that match the job description.

I grew up in Bury St Edmunds, after University I joined Enterprise holdings, and moved around the UK and Ireland in several roles on my way up the promotional ladder. After 11 years there, myself and my wife adopted our first daughter and I made the decision to work in a role that gave me greater work/life balance, so that i could be there to see her grow up. I wanted to work in an environment that allowed me to develop and excel, whilst offering me flexibility and SoCode was a perfect match."

What do you love about working at SoCode?

"I love the industry, we have some really exciting clients who are changing the world, and I do that working alongside an incredible group of people."

What have you learnt from the team and the company since being here?

"The importance of relationships, for us it's about adding value to our partners over a long time, and not just looking for short term gains."

Do you have any life goals that being at SoCode has either helped you achieve, or you're on your way?

"For me a personal goal was to be a present parent, and SoCode allowed me that flexibility, whilst developing me to help work towards my career goals."

What advice would you give someone looking to get into recruitment?

"Dive in, talk to as many people you can, and don't be afraid of going outside your comfort zone."

What inspires you?

"My family inspire me, I come from a family of hard grafters, so I'm just trying to keep up!"

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

"I wanted to play for Manchester United, and become a Power Ranger, or one of the two, I wasn't picky..."

Where would we find you outside of work?

"If it's not spending time with family, or watching my football team ruin my weekend, then I like to Box (as in boxing, not creating boxes)"

Interesting fact about you?

"Back in my youth, I was world ranked on FIFA, my Dad is a pro-golfer (no it's not Tiger Woods), I captained my university football team."
